Well having previously owned the Bold 9000 and the Curve 8900 and not really getting on with either and being totally in love with my iPhone i decided to take the plunge with this baby and early indications are positive.
I hated the trackball but the trackpad is fantastic... Battery has been charged just the once and appears to wipe the floor with all the above...it's still halfway since being taken off charge at 4pm yesterday and being played with almost non stop since then (apart from when i was asleep) Nice to have 3G back in a smaller form factor. Wi-Fi....i never seemed to be able to get it to work on previous BB's but this time it seems almost flawless. Now i just need to build up my BBM contacts.
Any questions just ask but i am a relative newbie to BB

Get one NOW!! I also have a Bold 9700 and loving it. I've had mine since Tuesday morning, and have charged it just twice - the initial charge, and once since despite hammering the GPS, media, and Wi-Fi.

I was able to play with them and I like them. The keyboard is easy to type on for fat fingers lol. If I were to buy and keyboard BB then the Bold 9700 would be it.

There are only a number of minor downsides to the 9700 over other RIM devices, certainly in the UK. I know that only T-Mo and AT&T are carrying them in the US, and they can't be unlocked and used on other carriers due to the technologies used. Could do with a better camera, slightly larger keyboard, and more on-board memory, but other than that it can't really be faulted. Did I mention the screen has a better resolution than both the Storm2 and iPhone 3GS?

Particularly those who opted for the 8900 a month or so before the 9700 came out.

Sprint and Verizon Wireless and CDMA which cannot be unlocked but then again it can be unlocked but here in the US, it will use only EDGE and in Europe, it will use 3G with the UTMS 2100 band where in the US, it's 800/850/1900MHz I believe, which the Storm9530/9550 and Tour 9630 does not have. But is does have the GPRS 900/850/1800/1900MHz Storm/Tour can both also be unlocked but in the US, it will only use EGDE and in Europe it will use 3G but the Bold9700 can be unlocked to use and GSM carriers but cannot use CDMA carriers like VZW and Sprint and will utilize the full 3g spectrum.

I was using a 8900 in work a few days ago and when trying to download a 1.0mb Google Latitude app it took AGES!!!. So much so i just gave up. 3G is defiantly needed with all these apps now. Having already owned a 9700 and sold on, I am looking forward to getting one back, especially as working for T-Mobile UK i get a free staff plan so pay £5 a month for BB but get a great allowance free of charge

I was about to sign up for T-Mo just to get the 9700 but then I realized how much their service sucks in my area. I would do AT&T but their service sucks too. GSM overall in Boston area isn't that great.
I mean if the plans were under $50 for everything, then I wouldn't mind but since it's $80 the lowest, I don't think I will do it.

Massively reduced functionality though if only running on EDGE or just 3G. I love maxing out 3.5G when using as a modem sat in the middle of London, while my friend's 8900 snails along.

I'm new to blackberry completely, I got my brand new bold 9700 on thursday and I wonder how I ever managed without it! The battery life has exceeded my expectations. Its so much easier to navigate than I expected and the touch sensitve dpad thingy is amazing all I need to do is skim my thumb over it and its done. I did handle my colleages curve which has the ball and it was nowhere near as pleasant as using this one.
I love the app ubertwitter its so much better than snaptu, which is pretty much the only free twitter app worth using on nokia handsets. And now it pales in comparison.
Anyways blackberry is my new love. I'm never touching another nokia again
